IMO it should be a crime to abuse and kill domestic animals...and it should be illegal to abuse wild animals or kill them without good reason. There is a difference between killing a person and an animal set forth in the law...cuz if these guys had killed people they would be goin to death row. So, as long as the punishment fits the crime and meets with precedents set in other cases involving the same crime, I don't have a problem with it.

Anyone who has the cruel intentions of putting an animal in pain or forcing/training it to fight and kill another living thing-- should be treated the same.

People CHOOSE to committ murder.
Animals are TRAINED by HUMANS to do it.

He should go to prison. Anyone who committs animal cruelty should get the same as child abuse or even malicious wounding charges.
It's a terrible thing that people could torture innocent animals for odd pleasure.

It's a felony under the Virginia "T-bone law" now.

A Lexington man will spend three years in prison after being sentenced under provisions from Virginia's T-Bone law.

Robert Carini pleaded guilty on June 4th for beating two dogs to death inside his downtown Lexington apartment.

The T-Bone law makes the abuse of any animal which causes death a felony in the commonwealth of Virginia.

The law is named after a Franklin County couple's dog, T-Bone, shot and killed by a neighbor.

Carini received the a full 10 year prison sentence. But the judge suspended 7 years.

I know it's a crime...just stating that I support that. Earlier this week tho I read a story where a guy in Wisconsin or somewhere got drunk and shot one of his family's pet goats cuz his old lady wouldn't bring him more beer. And, even though that is kinda cruel, it made me laugh...

I was just providing some supporting info - others may not realize it already is a felony in VA, and that others are already serving time for doing less than what Vick did

I've never hurt an animal in my life, I just think we as a society have our priorities a little messed up. Animals are killed every day, yes in a more humane way but the are killed. Get caught with Oxy's back on the street in 6 months kill a dog go to jail for three years, makes no sense to me. I'm glad it does to you all, never said it was right, takes a sick individual to kill an animal or fight them. I'm sure if Vick was out killing snakes people wouldn't care nearly as much, it's because there dogs people are obsessed with them. Like I said it was wrong but to me the penalty for drug possession, assault, etc should be more than killing a dog.

The difference is a dog is a domesticated animal. But, drug possession and assault doesn't constitute death to anyone or anything...so, I can't see equating that with the killing of an animal in the ways these guys did.
